eye surgery?

ok. during eye surgery when they CUT out your EYE or OPTIC NERVE do you have to be awake while they do that or can u be givin the option to be put asleep and they do it from there cause if your awake it seems painfull even with numbing
Answer
During routine eye surgery such as LASIK, cataract, or vitrectomy, we do not cut out your eye or optic nerve. Most of these procedures are done with local anesthetic and the procedure is tolerated quite well. The only time we would cut out the eye or the optic nerve is if we are removing the eyeball because of disease or trauma. When we do this we do put you to sleep.
